Our History
Communicata Language Services, LLC (also known as CLS) was
founded in 2001 by Patricia W. Smitherman, a Spanish language and culture
expert, and James L. Rhoden, Jr., an Atlanta entrepreneur who employs an
ethnically diverse workforce.
Patty holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Spanish. She has studied,
traveled, and conducted research in Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain, Uruguay and
Argentina. She developed and continues to facilitate the Spanish-for–Business
courses for the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce (Georgia). Patty has over 25
years of experience as a language consultant, working in a variety of business
settings. She is a recipient of Fulbright and National Endowment for the
Humanities Fellowships.
A variety of audiences including professional organizations, civic clubs, and
industry groups at state, national, and international meetings have enjoyed
Patty’s presentations and lectures on topics ranging from language teaching
techniques to the challenges of culture change.”
