| Education breeds opportunities; practicing employee Spanish; All Saints' Day |
The Hispanic business community understands the need for education. In fact, in every survey of most important issues facing the Latino population, education tops the list. In the July/August issue of Hispanic Business, Raul Pérez, President/CEO of Unittech says, “From a business point of view, the more educated our community is, the more tools we have to move ahead . . . That means more income, more business opportunities, more political influence.”
If your company has had Spanish training, arrange weekly roundtable practices so that employees can use what they’ve learned. If you have Spanish-speaking employees, invite them to participate too. You’ll really see great results!
Of the 100 Most Influential Hispanics (named by Hispanic Business magazine), the majority use English in business and both English and Spanish at home.
November 1, All Saints’ Day, is also celebrated in the Spanish-speaking world, but nowhere is it celebrated with such intensity as in Mexico. Families make memory tables or altars for a departed family member. Such altars are decorated with flowers, candles, photos of the departed, their favorite things including food and beverages. Families go to cemeteries to clean the graves and leave such offerings there as well. Look for a celebration near you. (In Atlanta, Georgia it will be at The Atlanta History Center, October 30 from noon to 5 PM). For more information, contact CLS.
